Hello! My name is Rachel Taylor and I love what I do! I'm a San Diego - based minimalist filmmaker and photographer with an enthusiasm for nature and music. I graduated from UC Santa Barbara in June 2017 with a degree in Film and Media Studies.
My most prominent film work at University was Beelievers: a lighthearted documentary about beekeepers and colony collapse disorder in Santa Barbara and Carpentaria. Since graduating, I have focused on music via creative music videos in addition to more structured promotional videos for bands and record labels. As a one-woman film crew, I have experience in all aspects of filmmaking. From working on sets to run-and-gun documentary style shoots. I’ve been a camera operator, sound engineer, editor, director, you name it.
In addition to filmmaking, photography is also a love of mine. My work spans from landscapes of Patagonia back country to surreal portraiture with environmentalist undertones to Instagram-worthy cocktails. I've been doing photography as a hobby for most of my life and my photos have been displayed in galleries such as the Glass Box Gallery in Santa Barbara & the Infinity on West Adams in Los Angeles, as well as in print and online publications. For more options of photo prints, visit this page.
Since graduating and moving back to my hometown, I've engaged in podcast sound design, music video directing, filming, editing, as well as creating content for an independent record label and local chefs. Be sure to check out my sound design for the American Beauty Podcast, a poignant collection of stories and informative feminist outlooks by Joanna Brooks.
As of Summer 2019, I am working as a full time video editor at Ignite Now Media, creating Youtube Stream Videos for Topshelf Records, and creating freelance photo and video content. If you have any questions or wish to collaborate, feel free to contact me! I'm always looking to meet new people and create beautiful things. Resume and video portfolio available upon request.
